John Legend has sold five million albums worldwide, featuring hit singles "Ordinary People," "Used to Love U," "So High," and "Save Room." He has wowed audiences around the globe for his musical talent, as well as his humanitarian efforts to help end poverty.
It was Kanye West that gave Legend his first break, signing him to West's G.O.O.D. Music production company in 2004. Legend's debut album, Get Lifted, opened at #7 on the Billboard Top 200, and he became an overnight sensation. Songs "Ordinary People," and "So High" brought both critical and commercial success, selling more than three million copies. Legend received three Grammy Awards for: Best New Artist, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Album.
"Some people have been making the same album for years and they don't really push the envelope," Legend says. "That's not me. Expect me to experiment. Expect me to always approach the music in new and different ways." That is evidenced in all of his albums, including Get Lifted (2004), Once Again (2006), Evolver (2008), and his album to be released this September, Wake Up Sessions.
